Frequently Asked Questions
What is an OE or OEM wheel?
An OE (Original Equipment) or OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) wheel is produced by the automobile manufacturer or it’s subcontractors to meet specifications for a particular model. In addition to the diameter of the wheel (17”, 18”, 19”…), each wheel has a specific width (8”, 8.5”, 9”…), center bore size, lug nut pattern and offset (distance from center line of width to it’s mounting surface). Aftermarket and aftermarket replica wheels are produced by third parties and some replica wheels may look exactly like an OEM wheel but are not.
What is the difference between remanufacturing versus touch-up?
A remanufactured wheel is one that has been stripped to bare metal, refinished and verified as being straight and true while a touch up consists of sanding down affected areas and blending paint (some shops use spray can paint), usually without even removing the tire and no verification of wheel being straight and true.
Are some repairs made with bondo?
No, we only repair gouges and cracks through professional welding using the properly alloy. Some shops do use bondo, particularly on gouges on the wheel face, but the repair will not last as long.
